Pre-owned ASM SIPLACE SX2 for flexible high-mix SMT production, with dual removable gantries, configuration review and machine condition checks.
The ASM SIPLACE SX2 is the two-gantry configuration of the SIPLACE SX platform, developed for manufacturers that need more placement capacity without giving up the flexibility required by high-mix production. Its removable gantries are the key distinction: compatible placement capacity can be added, removed or shifted between SX lines as order volumes and bottlenecks change.
ASMPT currently lists the SX2 at up to 86,500 CPH with two high-speed heads, but we would not recommend a used SX2 simply because it carries that speed rating. Each gantry carries its own placement head, and the combination determines what the machine is actually good at. Two high-speed heads favor standard-component throughput; a high-speed head paired with CPP can balance output and mixed-component flexibility; CPP and TWIN combinations shift the machine toward complex, large or odd-shaped parts.
With up to 120 positions for 8 mm feeders and support for tape, tray and other feeding concepts, the SX2 is particularly useful where a broad BOM and changing product mix must be handled without sacrificing too much line capacity. It can also support single-track, dual-track and optional long-board production, which makes the actual conveyor configuration an important part of machine selection.
When comparing used SX2 offers, we recommend checking both gantries as separate production assets: installed heads, cameras, calibration status, conveyor, software and optional process packages. A powered-on machine with two gantries is not automatically equivalent to another SX2 with the same model name.

| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Model | ASM SIPLACE SX2 |
| Gantry Configuration | Two removable and independently operating placement gantries |
| Placement Heads | CP20, CPP and TWIN head combinations, depending on generation and installed configuration |
| Placement Speed | Up to 86,500 CPH with the corresponding high-speed two-head configuration |
| IPC Placement Speed | Up to approximately 66,000 CPH reference |
| Placement Accuracy | ±25 µm @ 3σ current platform reference; head-specific performance varies |
| PCB Size | Up to 450 × 560 mm single-track; 450 × 265 mm dual-track; long-board option up to approximately 1,525 × 560 mm |
| Component Range | From small standard components to large, heavy and odd-shaped parts according to the installed heads and options |
| Feeder Capacity | Up to 120 positions for 8 mm feeders |
| Conveyor Mode | Single-track or flexible dual-track conveyor |
The specifications above are ASMPT platform references. The quoted 86,500 CPH applies to the appropriate high-speed head configuration; mixed CPP or TWIN configurations have different production ratings. Confirm both gantries, installed heads, conveyor, software and included feeder equipment for the individual used machine.
On a used SX2, the two installed heads often tell us more about the machine's production role than the model name itself. The same SX2 base can be configured for maximum chip throughput, balanced high-mix work, or demanding large-component placement.
| Typical Head Combination | Production Emphasis | When We Would Recommend It |
|---|---|---|
| Two CP20-family High-Speed Heads | Maximum small-component placement output | High placement-count boards where standard SMD throughput is the main constraint |
| CP20-family + CPP | Speed plus broader component flexibility | High-mix production that still needs strong chip-placement capacity but cannot dedicate both gantries to high-speed heads |
| CPP + CPP | Balanced mixed-component capability | Products with frequent changes and a broad component mix where flexibility matters more than the highest benchmark speed |
| CPP + TWIN | Flexible placement plus large or odd-shaped components | Lines handling connectors, larger packages, special components or end-of-line placement tasks |
For two used SX2 machines at a similar price, we would normally compare the installed head combination, gantry condition, software/options and included feeder package before treating the published CPH as the deciding factor.
The SIPLACE SX2 is most attractive when a factory needs two placement roles or higher output while keeping the SX platform's high-mix flexibility. A well-matched used unit is defined by the condition and combination of its two gantries and heads—not simply by the 86,500 CPH specification.
