ASM SIPLACE SX1 Modular SMT Mounter

The ASM SIPLACE SX1 is the single-gantry configuration of the SIPLACE SX high-mix platform. Unlike a fixed-capacity placement machine, the SX uses a removable gantry concept, allowing compatible placement capacity to be added, removed or shifted between SX lines when production demand changes. For factories handling frequent product changes or variable order volumes, this flexibility is one of the main reasons we would consider a used SX1 rather than selecting a machine only by maximum CPH.

ASMPT currently rates the SX1 at up to 43,250 CPH, with up to 120 positions for 8 mm feeders. The more important question on a used machine, however, is which placement head is installed. A CP20 configuration emphasizes fast placement of small standard components, CPP gives a broader mixed-component range, while TWIN is intended for larger, heavier or odd-shaped parts.

This makes the SX1 useful when one gantry can perform a clearly defined role in the line: high-mix assembly, NPI work, flexible end-of-line placement, or production where component diversity matters more than adding a second high-speed gantry. The large feeder capacity is also valuable when several products or a broad BOM must remain prepared without constant material changes.

When we compare used SX1 offers, we look beyond the machine label. The installed head, gantry condition and calibration, conveyor type, software generation and included feeder equipment determine whether the machine can be integrated into the buyer's actual production plan.

The values above are ASMPT platform references. Earlier SX generations may use different head designations or published ratings, so the nameplate, gantry, head, conveyor and software configuration of the individual used machine should be confirmed.

What Defines a Good Used SX1 Configuration?

Two SX1 machines can carry the same model name but suit very different production jobs. When recommending a used unit, we would compare the actual configuration before comparing the asking price.

If one gantry cannot meet the required cycle time or the line would benefit from two different placement-head roles working in the same machine, the SIPLACE SX2 becomes the more relevant configuration to evaluate.

A used SIPLACE SX1 makes the strongest case when one correctly configured gantry can cover the required placement role while preserving the SX platform's high-mix and capacity-adjustment flexibility. The installed head and gantry condition should carry more weight in the purchase decision than the headline 43,250 CPH figure alone.
