The Siemens SIPLACE D1 is a single-gantry flexible SMT placement machine designed for mixed-component PCB production. Depending on the installed C&P12, C&P6 or Pick & Place configuration, it can handle standard SMDs, IC packages, fine-pitch devices, tray-fed components and selected larger parts on one platform. For factories using SIPLACE D Series equipment, its primary role is broader component coverage rather than maximum chip-placement speed.
That distinction matters when standard resistors, capacitors and smaller packages are already being placed fast enough but the remaining ICs or special components still require another machine or an additional process. In that situation, more chip-placement CPH does not remove the actual production gap. A correctly configured D1 allows more of the BOM to remain inside the automated SMT process instead of pushing difficult components into another placement stage.
A C&P12 head provides published output of up to approximately 15,000 CPH for standard SMD production, while C&P6 and Pick & Place configurations extend the machine toward larger ICs, fine-pitch packages and special components. With the applicable Pick & Place setup, selected components can reach approximately 200 × 125 mm. This gives the D1 a useful role in industrial control, communications and other mixed assemblies where component diversity matters more than the highest possible chip-placement rate.
The used-D1 business case is strongest when the factory needs to add or replace flexible placement capability without changing more of the line than necessary. We have multiple used D1 machines available with different head, camera, conveyor, feeder and software configurations, so the better purchase is the machine whose installed equipment already matches the real BOM. Where compatibility is confirmed, existing SIPLACE feeder resources, programs, technician experience and maintenance practices may also continue to provide value.
The D1 is especially useful when component variety changes between jobs and a single flexible machine needs to handle both repeated standard placements and more demanding IC or special-component work. It is less suitable when the product is dominated by small standard components and the real objective is simply to increase placement throughput.

These are OEM reference capabilities rather than guaranteed performance from an individual used D1. Placement head, camera package, feeder system, conveyor, software and machine condition determine the usable component and PCB range. The actual installed configuration should therefore be confirmed before two used machines are compared by price.
The D1 should be chosen for component flexibility, not simply because it belongs to the D Series. The real decision is whether the factory needs broader BOM coverage from one flexible machine or more standard-placement throughput from a higher-output platform.

One of the most expensive mistakes in buying a used D1 is assuming that every machine carrying the same model name has the same production capability. A C&P12 machine, a C&P6 configuration and a D1 equipped for Pick & Place can serve very different PCB programs. Camera options, tray equipment, feeders and conveyor capability may matter more to the intended job than manufacturing year alone.
This is also why a used D1 can make more financial sense than a broader equipment change. If the factory already has sufficient chip-placement capacity, the investment can be focused on the missing flexible-placement function instead of replacing equipment that is already meeting its cycle target. If the real requirement is higher standard-component throughput, the SIPLACE D2 is the more relevant comparison.
Before price becomes the deciding factor, verify the installed head, camera package, conveyor, feeder equipment and software on the actual D1 being offered.
