Feeder symptoms should still be traced through the actual mechanism. Tape path resistance, drive engagement and other mechanical causes can create unstable feeding without either PCB being defective. Once the mechanical path is normal, the electrical diagnosis can be narrowed between the distributor PCB, the separate control PCB and their connections.
The value of board-level identification is that a serviceable 3×8mm feeder does not need to be replaced as a complete unit simply because one internal PCB has failed. The benefit only exists when the failed board has been identified correctly.
